About us

Who We Are

BoraRide Carpool Ltd is a Kenyan company with offices in Nakuru and Eldoret. We move people between Kenyan towns, in cars, with drivers we have checked.

We connect people driving between towns with people travelling the same way, and we take responsibility for the part nobody else does — knowing who is behind the wheel, whether the vehicle is covered, and where you are while you are on the road.

You book a seat before you leave the house. You see the driver, the car and the price. You travel, and you arrive.

Safety

Whether you get there in one piece is not left to chance.

Most intercity travel in Kenya asks you to accept a driver you have never seen, in a vehicle nobody has inspected, on terms nobody has read. We think that is an odd thing to ask of somebody for five hours.

The driver is checked by a person
Identity documents, driving licence, logbook and photograph — read by a member of staff, not passed through a scanner. A driver whose papers do not hold up does not carry anybody.
The cover is read, line by line
Five checks on every certificate: the class of cover, the passenger liability, whether the registration matches, whether it covers the day you travel, and whether AKI's motor database says it is genuine.
Somebody is watching the road
Your journey is tracked while it runs and you can share it with anyone you choose. An alarm you raise reaches a desk with a person at it, who can see exactly where you are.

An ordinary private motor policy does not cover carrying passengers who have paid. Most people do not know that, and most people never find out until it matters. It is the first thing we check.

Trust

What you were told is what happens.

Trust is not a feeling we would like you to have. It is a set of things that either hold or do not.

Your money waits with you
The fare goes to a licensed payment provider when you book — not to the driver, not to us. It is released only when the journey is over and both of you confirm it happened. If nobody comes, the money comes back.
The price you saw is the price
The fare is set when you book and does not move afterwards. No surge, no renegotiation at the roadside, nothing added at the end.
The driver who comes is the driver you saw
Name, photograph, vehicle and registration, shown before you pay. If a different car arrives, that is not your trip, and you have not lost your fare.

Neither of you has to take the other on faith, because neither of you is holding the money.

Comfort

Five hours is a long time to spend somewhere you would rather not be.

The difference between a journey you tolerate and a journey you forget about is mostly small things, and they are all decided before you set off.

A seat, not a squeeze
A car carries four or five people, not fourteen. Your own seat, your own window, room for your bag, and somewhere to put your arm.
You leave when it was agreed
The departure time is the departure time. No standing at a stage waiting for the last two seats to sell before anybody moves.
You are set down where you are going
Agreed with the driver when you book — not wherever the route happens to end, and not another matatu across town afterwards.

We are not the cheapest way to cross the country and we have never said we were. We are the one where you know who is driving, and you arrive able to do something with the rest of your day.
